Year 4 Debating English
28th February 2018 - Children from Year 4 showed off their debating skills this week in a competition to find the best class in their year group. Each class elected five speakers to debate the issue and then worked in teams to develop their arguments, covering areas such as behaviour, class names, working hard, having fun, class displays and teamwork. Children listened carefully to the speeches and then voted as a year group, although they could not vote for their own class. The result was incredibly close, with only two votes separating the first and third placed class. The event was held as part of an English unit on discussion texts and aimed to develop the children’s speaking and listening skills as well as their awareness of British values of democracy.
