Curriculum Weighting

The academy delivers the curriculum as discrete subject areas with clearly outlined progressions from EYFS-Yr6 and beyond. Each subject is taught in line with the programmes of study from the National Curriculum. This ensures at the very least we deliver the full breadth of the national curriculum and in most subjects - significantly more. The curriculum both ACP and the Ark Oval versions are T shaped curricular where a theme is used to make appropriate links across subjects (Hirsch) but without those links being tenuous and unproductive to a deeper subject knowledge.

Recall and Remembering

In addition to subject assessment the academy makes use of other recall and knowledge building activities:

Leitner Card System: this is a vocabulary and fact based recall system for spaced learning deriving from the Ebbinghaus Forgetting Curve. The children review key words and facts at the beginning of each lesson and the definitions/facts. Based on their performance these cards are then spaced over the week to promote retention of key information and its application in lessons.

Register Recall: The register in AM and PM is answered with a key fact or definition - these are designed to access information which is NOT CURRENT and may come from previous modules, terms or years.

Morning slides: The academy has a soft start from 08:20-08:35 and during this phase the children have questions posed from current units, prvious learning and previous years.
