Ark Oval comes 2nd in the Ark Junior Great Debate Championships

Sunday 05 June 2016

On Tuesday 24th May, 12 of the Ark primary schools battled it out for victory in the inaugural Ark Junior Great Debate Championships at Dartmouth House in collaboration with the English Speaking-Union.

On the day, students discussed diverse issues such as whether we should ban zoos and release all animals into the wild and whether we should abolish SATs. The standard of debate was outstanding and students from all schools impressed judges with their confidence, quick witted arguments and teamwork skills.

A particular highlight was during the debate about SATs where Rym from Westminster Class said: 'We should abolish SATs because children should not be defined by a piece of paper. I will not be defined by a level.' After three rounds of hard fought debate, Ark Oval Primary Academy narrowly lost out in the final to, Ark Franklin Primary Academy.

Congratulations to all involved! We are extremely proud of our debate team and can't wait for the next one!
