Our Week 24th-28th February 2020

Ark Oval Primary Academy – News of the Week

Principals Summary

Dear Parent and Carers,

Firstly, a huge thank you to each one of you who logged onto the Parent View Survey and reaffirmed all the work we have put into he academy in the last two years. We will be issuing an update this week to show you what the community thinks of this school – it makes for good reading!

On this theme it is unfortunate that I must remind you of one of the most important elements of being a true community – kindness. Pupils last week and this week will be receiving assemblies and specific in class support regarding their use of social media… unfortunately this week I have had two different instances of children sending abusive and inappropriate messages via Tick Tok, Instagram, Whatsapp and Snapchat. I need not remind you that the sending of abusive messages is illegal. As such the academy advice to those impacted is to contact the police directly. We again implore that parents pay VERY close attention to the activities of their children online when using smart phones or any other communication device – lest either you or they wish to receive a call from the police.

This unfortunately has been an issue as far down as Year 3 therefore do not assume that this is someone else’s problem. Be safe online for you and your children.

The Coming Week (s)

World Book Day

As you have already had a letter from Mrs Thomas I’m sure you are all prepared for a great day, this year we are taking it in a slightly different direction and have chosen to not focus on the dressing up for two key reasons.

  1. The day is about reading and books – not fancy dress – children will get to still have the same fun day but without the pressure of costume and comparison.
  2. The cost – Ark Oval serves a diverse community with differing incomes and expenditure. World Book Day has unfortunately become a major industry and costs to purchase a costume are untenable. To be inclusive we have swept this aside and levelled the playing field

Wednesday 4th March – Ark Blake Parent Event

1730 – 1900 in dining hall – Prospective parents for Ark Blake Secondary are invited to meet with Mr Shaw to reaffirm their choices or discuss any queries with him.

Monday 9th – International Women’s Day

If you are keen to support, please let your class teacher know.

Tuesday 10th – Holi

As part of our studies on various religions the academy will be enjoying a day learning about Holi on Tuesday 10th – if you are keen to support or participate please notify your class teacher.

Wednesday 11th – SEND Coffee Morning
