Our Week - 27th-31st January 2020

Ark Oval Primary Academy – News of the Week

Principals Summary

Dear Parents and Carers,

National Storytelling Week:

This week the academy will be celebrating the national storytelling week. Children will have the opportunity to engage and build their love of storytelling and listening. Children will get the chance to engage with children in other year groups telling and writing stories and expand and build a wider knowledge of fiction.

Weeks like this are absolutely integral to the academies continuing drive to build cultural capital as part of our curriculum objectives. The academy serves an incredibly diverse populace and as such ensuring we give all a fair access to all opportunities is very much a core belief of the school – our children need the knowledge, skills, character attributes and experiences from which to draw  to be not only successful students but fulfilled and self-actuating  members of our society.

In light of the terrible events at East Croydon and Streatham this week we have an obligation to the wider community of South London to ensure that our children venture into the world as well informed, tolerant and moderate individuals – what and how we teach them and the values we hold dearest help us prevent the mindsets and attitudes that fuel these acts of violence. The academy continues to strive to ensure we are proactively addressing this. We have existing relationships with knife crime prevention charities and groups and all staff receive the statutory PREVENT training from the Home Office to address the early signs of radicalisation.

INSET 14th Feb

A reminder that the academy will be CLOSED on the 14th Feb.

IT services

The academy will be transitioning onto a new cloud-based system during the half term period. This provides greater flexibility and autonomy to staff and paired with the accompanied device refresh for all teachers and the continued development of the IT suite is a huge part of the academies on-going commitment to broadening the curriculum and staff wellbeing and retention. However, the downside of this is the as of the 13th Feb until the academy reopens after half term NO STAFF WILL HAVE EMAIL ACCESS - IF YOU NEED TO NOTIFY US OF ANYTHING PLEASE LEAVE A VOICEMAIL WITH THE OFFICE. We apologise for the inconvenience and the inevitable delay but this short-term pain is very much worth the long term gain.
