Our Week 7-11th October 2019

Ark Oval Primary Academy – News of the Week

Principals Summary

Dear Parents and Carers,

Welcome to our new look weekly news page, we will be producing this page each week with a summary of the news, focused on key events and pupil achievements, as well as upcoming events. This will be complimented by a half termly newsletter with extended coverage from each year group as well as key events for the next half term and upcoming curriculum information in hard copy for every family.

We have opted to take this approach to communications to help promote the readership and accessibility of the newsletter as well as integrating the website more into our daily usage to keep it up to date and the single point of contact for key school information without over complicated download and upload requirements. Also, the website also auto translates to set languages, which we hope this builds a greater accessibility, and therefore unity, across the full breadth of our community whatever language maybe spoken.

We appreciate your support and understanding in this change to school routines. If there are any comments or feedback you would like to support the academy with to make this the most useful and efficient medium for parents please send comments to t.martlew@arkovalprimary.org

Our Week

World Mental Health Day

The academy engaged fully with World Mental Health day the week and all classes learnt about how to maintain their own mental health as well as building positive self-image and understanding how to overcome negative feelings and challenges.

Library Update

NEW BOOKS! They asked- we listened. More Dork Diaries and Wimpy Kid, more annuals (Minecraft, Spiderman to name a few) & more chillers! New titles - Recommended for Y6 by the Book Trust. Huge thank you to the parents and governors who contributed.

Many thanks to Year 1 for the great turnout from Year 1 for the Year 1 Library night children and parents enjoyed the reading classes and the chance to borrow and enjoy books in our well stocked and well used library!

Yom Kippur Day

The academy celebrated another multi-cultural day this week with learning across the school on the Jewish festival of Yom Kippur. The children enjoyed learning from peers and adults about the different celebrations undertaken by different faiths.

Prospective Parents Tour

This week we started the process of inviting parent of children choosing their reception classes for next year. It was great to hear from these guests about how impressed they were with the academy environment but also the manners and kindness of the children they encountered in the academy.

Member of Parliament Visit

On Friday we welcomed Sarah Jones MP to the academy – she enjoyed a walk of the academy and met several classes. She then had a question and answers session with the class captains from a variety of classes across the school – all pupil conducted themselves brilliantly and showed a nose for a difficult question and possibly a future in investigative journalism!

Parent Association Meeting

Many thanks to the parents who attended the first prospective members meeting this week – the next meeting will be held on TUESDAY NOVEMBER 12th 1900 in the library – ready for finalisation and a launch in January
