Our Week - 9th - 13th March 2020

Ark Oval Primary Academy – News of the Week

Principals Summary

Dear Parent and Carers,

COVID-19 remains the elephant in the room and seemingly overshadows all we do at the moment. The academy has taken the difficult decision to postpone all trips from the school in order to limit the exposure – this is in line with best practice advice from the local authority as well as our own multi academy trust. We will hopefully have the opportunity to reorganise these trips for the summer term.

The news at the moment is full of half-truths and conjecture – we teach the children extensively about identifying “fake news” and critical assessment of online information however, seemingly, as adults we aren’t so good at it ourselves. I have seen some TRULY outlandish assertions regarding the next few weeks – we would council the best place to get your news is via the government direct https://www.gov.uk/government/topical-events/coronavirus-covid-19-uk-government-response

The most pressing question I have been asked is whether the academy will be shutting. I know as much about this as you do – we will follow all public health England and Department for Education guidelines to the letter and be prepared for every eventuality.

The Coming Week (s)

Monday 16th March – World Sleep Day

The academy will be reviewing sleeping patterns and talking about the power and importance of getting enough sleep (and letting their parents get enough sleep).

Thursday 19th March – Female Relatives Day

Reception will be inviting in female relatives beyond Mum to enjoy reading and learning with the children – Mrs Downey will be sending a letter this week.

Thursday 19th March – ArkStart Croydon Launch

This week sees the official launch of the new nursery opening onsite this September – whilst not part of the academy the nursery will belong to the same trust as Oval and there are obvious and abundant links between the two that we intend to make the very most of.

Friday 20th March – World Poetry Day

This is always one of the highlights of the academy year. Children will be immersed in poetry – learning reciting and creating verse throughout the day. If you have a favourite poem please share it with them this coming week.
