Principal's Update - WC 18th January 2021

Sunday 24 January 2021

Dear Parents and Carers,

This week's a short update as we have had a great week and there are (for once) no massive announcements from the Department for Education. We only have a couple of short notices:

Please be VERY careful around your children's access to social media and online influences. We have had a couple of incidents with ill-advised social media usage in the last two weeks.

Firstly, please be aware that once your child turns ten, they are legally culpable in posting social media content. This posting includes commentary on the message and similar. In recent weeks we have had some children using the app "Discord" irresponsibly. Complaints against pupils will result in investigation and possible sanctions. But outside the school gates the jurisdiction, and response to aggressive or offensive positing lies with the police. They are active and keen to pursue these complaints to please be aware of hat your children are positing, or there could be a knock at the door...

WhatsApp, Discord, Facebook, YouTube, Instagram, and Tiktok are inappropriate for children in the primary age to have individual accounts. No matter how well you feel, you supervise we have seen repeated evidence of the tenacity, ingenuity and cunning of those who groom and subvert your children online. We cannot emphasise enough how careful you must be aware of your children's online profiles and communication. Utilising these platforms is merely opening additional avenues for people to access your child.
